Located in the northwest corner of Italy, Piemonte is best known for Barolo, the king of wines, and Barbaresco which feature the Nebbiolo grape. However Piemonte offers a vast range of different grapes and wines that are just being rediscovered. From the local daily drinkers like Barbera to rare wines like Pelaverga. Each of our producers stories is told by their wine and we hope that you explore it with us.

Castello di Verduno is an historic Piemontese estate that makes classic Barolo and Barbaresco from prime vineyard sites in both appellations. Although Franco Bianco and his wife Gabriella are the titular heads of the estate, they have a very talented young winemaker, Mario Andrion, who has run the cellar since 2000. Mario was trained in Italy, but has also worked harvests in Oregon. Franco and Gabriella’s daughter Marcella run the day to day operations. he winery’s philosophy is to produce wines that speak of place in a classic way and are also sustainable and protect the land. As such, they practice organic farming and are meticulous both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Mario uses minimal SO2 and also vinifies with indigenous yeast. Their wines are firmly traditional in style though never rustic; in fact just the opposite, they retain a rare elegance and purity.

Azienda Agricola 499 is one of Piedmonts’s most precious hidden gems. Founded in 2012 by Mario Andrion and Gabriele Saffirio, this relatively new project is already making waves across the region. Their ambitious artisanal grape growing and winemaking estate is focused on the hyper-regional Piedmont varieties. Together, for this very personal project, they are pioneering the rebirth of single site Freisa and Moscato. Mario and Gabriele's six hectares of vines are cultivated on the steep, terraced limestone rich hills 20 km to the east of Alba.
